Every internet marketer understands that the right keywords in their Adsense ads are critical to their income.  Not all keywords are created equal and while there are some that may earn you a decent amount of income a month, there are also the coveted few that will earn you a great income per week.  However, they also come with a high price.  But before you go ahead and buy the highest priced click-per-ad for Adsense, answer this question: do you know SEO?  Because if you don’t, you may not profit from the highest priced Adsense ad keywords.

Why SEO will render your highest priced Adsense ad useless
You’re probably thinking what the connection between the click-per-ad and the search engine optimization of your site.  Actually, SEO matters to your site more than you know and if you ignore it, you could miss out on getting people to click on your ad, leaving our high priced ad stale.

Here are reasons why you should consider SEO before you spend money on the highest priced Adsense ad keywords:

SEO gets you noticed.
Getting a high SEO ranking is akin to being the souvenir shop next to an airport.  You’re there and you have what people want.  You can make it even better if you have something in particular that all those people coming off the plane like to have.  Say you’re a souvenir shop in an area famous for turquoise jewelry.  If your shop features this gemstone in the majority of your products, people will flock to you because you’re the shop that offers exactly what they want.

The same is true with using SEO on your site.  If people use search engines to look for something they want to buy or read, being an optimized site will help you get to the first page and top rank of the search engines.  It has been observed that people are more likely to click on the first sites on the first page offered by the search engines than they would on the subsequent pages.  If yours is found on the first page, you’re more likely to get noticed.  Potential customers will easily find you, click on your site and discover your high priced keyword Adsense ad.

SEO increases your traffic.
An optimized site is a more relevant site, meaning you are bound to be viewed as a site that offers usable content.  People who go through search engines look for information or products that meet their search goals.  If they’re looking for a particular topic or subject and your site is optimized for just this purpose, they will definitely find your site relevant.  More people will click on your site as a result.  Furthermore, they are more likely to promote your site to their friends whom they think will find your site useful.

Now, imagine exposing your high priced Adsense ad to all that traffic.  Imagine the possibilities.  Of course, not all of them will click on your high priced keyword ad but some of them will.  Say you get 1,000 visitors per day and only 10% of those click on your ad.  Getting paid $1 per click translates to $100 a day, about $3000 a month.  Compare that to getting just 300 to 500 visitors a day with just 10% clicking on your ads, maybe even less if you don’t use SEO.  Imagine all the lost commissions.

SEO increases your reliability.
Being useful to site visitors can actually increase your site’s reliability factor.  If people view you as reliable, they are more likely to trust your judgment.  If they see your high priced keyword Adsense ad on your site, they are more likely to click on it because they know that they have been getting relevant results so far and since a reliable site is promoting it, they could check that ad out and see for themselves.

SEO sends targeted traffic your way.
Another reason why SEO is important for increasing your Adsense income through your high priced keyword ads is that it is capable of attracting highly targeted traffic.  Why is this important?  Getting optimized is not always perfect.  Out of the traffic that enters your site each day, some of those will actually be people who either got to your site by accident or are just in there to browse.  Some of them may just be there to read your interesting stuff and then leave without doing much else.

With SEO, you can actually narrow down your traffic and entice only those who are truly interested in what you have to offer, especially those with whom you will have better chances of getting your high priced keyword Adsense ad noticed.  Of course, these are popular keywords and they do fetch a lot of value but with the kind of traffic looking for relevant searches, you’re more likely to profit from your Adsense ads by knowing SEO.
